Ready to begin our haunting story? Fa-boo-lous! Let's go.
Many years ago a school teacher named Ichabod Crane LEFT Connecticut, to take a job RIGHT in the quiet town of Sleepy Hollow. He was tall and lanky and could RIGHTly be mistaken for a scarecrow if you saw him from a distance.
Some say Sleepy Hollow was bewitched and LEFT under a spell which caused the people to live in a dreamlike state.
Ghost stories were shared LEFT and RIGHT among the townspeople. They often talked of witnessing visions of specters appearing RIGHT before them. Yes! That's RIGHT! They heard and saw many strange things, but the most talked about of the apparitions was the Headless Horseman.
Ichabod loved to read books about the supernatural, but that usually LEFT him frightened to travel in the dark. He would recite comforting verses RIGHT before leaving anywhere, cautiously looking RIGHT, then LEFT, and then RIGHT again as he made his journeys RIGHT through the night.
Not long after arriving in Sleepy Hollow, Ichabod's heart was drawn RIGHT to a beautiful young woman named Katrina Van Tassel. The fact that her family was wealthy fit RIGHT into his dream of the perfect bride.
Unfortunately, Katrina was being pursued RIGHT and LEFT by potential suitors, but especially by Abraham Von Brunt, also known as Brom Bones.
Brom directed every manner of mischief he could think of RIGHT toward Ichabod to discourage him from pursuing Katrina. Eventually, Ichabod was LEFT with no other option, but to wait and hope for the RIGHT moment.
That moment came RIGHT around harvest time, when he was invited to a party being held RIGHT at Katrina's home.
Ichabod was upstaged RIGHT from the start when Brom Bones arrived on his wild unbroken steed, Daredevil. That just did not compare to Ichabod's old and well-worn horse, Gunpowder.
Things didn't get better either as the night progressed. Though Ichabod danced and laughed with Katrina RIGHT through the party, his final conversation with her led RIGHT to an unrequited conclusion. Ichabod LEFT that night brokenhearted.
As he began his sad journey home he was LEFT to wrestle with his superstitious imaginations.
Did he hear a rustle in the trees to his LEFT?
Did he see something ghostly moving beside him to his RIGHT?
An eerie sensation rushed RIGHT through him. Over and over the ghost stories he'd heard swirled RIGHT within his thoughts, and then (deep breath) ... all of his fears arose in one shadowy image RIGHT there before him.... Yes! RIGHT there, a few paces forward and to the LEFT appeared the Headless Horseman.
Ichabod rode off in haste, but the Headless Horseman was RIGHT on his tail.
They veered sharply RIGHT at the oak tree and then LEFT toward the church.
Ichabod's saddle starting slipping RIGHT out from under him, but he held on tight heading RIGHT for the old bridge where he thought he would be safe. He was wrong.
The Headless Horsemen was RIGHT behind him and delivered his final blow by hurling his decapitated head RIGHT at Ichabod. The head hit Ichabod RIGHT in the cranium. The impact knocked him out cold and it was there that the ghostly Horsemen LEFT him.
The next morning, Ichabod was nowhere to be found. The townspeople were LEFT to believe he was spirited away by a supernatural encounter. Brom was LEFT delighted that he was now free to take Katrina's hand in marriage.
To this day we are all LEFT wondering... Did the Headless Horseman really take Ichabod, or did Brom dress up as the Horseman and play a spooky prank on him to frighten him RIGHT out of town?
