For my 12 birthday party I had no clue what to do. All I knew was that it had to be extravagant! It was my last kids party and I had no idea, but then it just clicked... Glow stick!!
My b-day's in November so I couldn't have like a camping theme or anything like I wanted to, but we have a huge bonfire pit in my backyard!! So let me tell you about my glow in the dark party!
My invites were SUPER awesome and cheap! The invites were in a scroll with glow in the dark ribbon around it! Inside it said everything you'd need to know about the party, and it came with a little VIP pass with glow in the dark sunglasses! And it said you HAVE to bring that or you can't get in, so it makes it feel exclusive!
I wanted it on my real b-day so it would be special. It was on a Friday, so I was lucky that my bus from school is really empty, so I had everyone ride my bus home, and it worked A LOT better than I expected. All 16 people could come!
When we got to my house they all set their bags in the living room, and we headed outside. I told them to dress really warm cause we were gonna be outside most of the time.
My backyard is SUPER big so we had no problem with all 16 peeps!
We started out with going on the back deck and my mom had a lil' snack ready for us!
Since it was November it got dark real fast... just as we expected! So we started right when we could.
My sister made this HUGE scavenger hunt ready for us and we split into teams of 6 (so there were 2 teams) The winning team got to pick out from the Glow bin full of tons of glow in the dark sunglasses.
That took about 45 min. to an hour so we had a little bit of cooling down time before we started the next activities. As it got darker we went back to the deck and ate some dinner from the grill (hot dogs, hamburgers, salad, corn, etc.) It was pretty much pitch dark after that so we started the big time activities!!
My mom found this really cool game online that was perfect for tons of smaller games all you need to do is get some light colored balloons and tons of glow sticks! (and trust me i had MILLIONS of both!) and you put one glow stick in each balloon and blow the balloon up, then tie it...
IMPORTANT: Make sure you snap all the glow sticks before you put them in the balloons.
...and give everyone a glow stick and after they all snap them, you throw up all of the balloons at the same time and you have to keep them all up with just using the glow sticks and if you use something other than your glow stick your out and the last person keeping up all of the glowing balloons wins! Of course you got to pick out of the Glow bin!
We also did other games with the balloons and glow sticks such as volley ball with our net covered in glow sticks, keep it up and many more!!
After a while it started getting later and colder, but we were prepared! Everyone sat around the fire pit and my dad put up the fire! It was REALLY cold outside so we had about 20 blankets! We brought out some smore' things and we sat around the fire for hours, telling stories, and having a lot of laughs.
My family tricked everyone into thinking that it was time to go to bed at about 10 but that was just the beginning! We decided to have everyone sleep in the basement cause that was the biggest room in the house, and trust me it is HUGE! We pretty much just gutted out the whole basement, so we had enough room for everyone to sleep.
In one part it was where we have our 68 inch tv! That was the amazing movie area, and a long wide area was where we were sleeping and we made sure there was just enough room for everyone to sleep and there was.
We surprised everyone when we said we were joking and just to go into the basement. It was all lit up by glow sticks!!!
The whole room was filled with balloons of glowsticks, streamers of glowsticks, the tv was even lined in glowsticks! We had really cool signs that we made saying happy birthday and things like that with dim lights behind them so it looked like the sign was glowing!
It was probably the hardest we have ever worked on decorating a party of mine! But it was all worth it! We did many fun games and watched at least 5 movies!
The food table was probably the best part though! It was on a low table with a neon green canopy over it with glow sticks and candy taped on it! The bowls were glow in the dark with normal snacks like chips and salsa in them. The table was covered in streamers with glow sticks attached to them.
We went to bed at about 3 in the morning so we woke up extra late. We had pancakes and toaster strudels in the morning and the party favors were glow in the dark nail polish and pens.
It was a really fun party that I will never forget and I hope this will help you with your party planning!!!
