How will YOU celebrate National Womens Friendship Day?
Have you ever met up with an old friend, someone you hadn't seen in years? We always fall back on the same explanation; you know, the one that says we meant to keep in touch but life is so busy and time goes by too fast. Even those closest to us are often victims of life's demands.
I am sure that most of us are familiar with good intentions - the phone call we thought to make, the letter we meant to write, or the lunch date we wanted to plan. Well, now you have been given the perfect excuse, National Womens Friendship Day.
Created in 1999 by Kappa Delta Sorority, this day (the third Sunday of September) is dedicated to celebrating friendship and honoring those special women in our lives. Whether it be a lifelong friend, mother, sister, neighbor, teacher, or the parent you chat with at your kid's soccer game, we all know amazing women who have touched our lives in some way.
These are the ones who have made a difference, who have impacted and inspired us, held our hands, wiped our tears, encouraged our dreams, supported us, laughed with us, and had the guts to be honest with us. They are often the unsung heroes.
We lean on them, draw strength from them, sometimes take them for granted, but we know in our hearts that we cannot make it through life without them. So if you know someone like this, and I'm sure you do, on September 18, take a moment to sayTHANKS! Send that card, make that phone call, give a hug, or plan that lunch date.
From the time we were little girls, we have understood the bond women share with each other, and the power and strength a good friendship can add to the fabric of our lives. On National Women's Friendship Day, set aside some time from your busy schedule, use your imagination, think with your heart, and show the women in your life how much they mean to you.
